Hi, I’m Aidan.
I am an Estes Park resident and a Colorado native. You may have seen me around town, walking with my husband, Andrew Hampton, and our two dogs. I graduated from Pikes Peak State College in Colorado Springs in 2019. I work at Peak Flooring, Estes Park’s local flooring store, with my husband. I am an animal lover, and I foster kittens with Animal Friends Alliance in Fort Collins. In my free time, I like to read, play tennis, and ski. But…
What matters is that I want to make Estes Park a better place for you.
Through my conversations with friends living in town, I have noticed a few things that could use improvement. If elected, I would like to focus on improving three key areas:
Affordability
1) Affordable Housing
Our town council has done an excellent job of increasing the amount of affordable housing in Estes Park over the recent years. However, I have personally met several young people working two jobs in Estes Park, yet they cannot even afford a simple apartment. There is more work to be done. I find it absolutely unacceptable that there are people who work 40 to 60 hours in our town and still cannot afford to live here. I promise you, I will fight hard to improve the housing economy in Estes Park.
2) Childcare
Year after year, residents have expressed that they want affordable childcare in Estes Park. Yet, we still don’t have it. Affordable childcare is one of the most important things we can provide if we want to allow for greater economic opportunity in Estes Park. After all, you can’t work if you have a preschooler at home and no one else to care for them.
3) Clean Energy Jobs
I propose that our town invest in wind and solar energy, in addition to building upon our existing water power production. Investing in clean energy will create jobs, lower electricity bills for residents, and help to protect our beautiful planet.
Infrastructure
As Coloradans, we are generally active people. We love to hike, bike and walk. When we are in our cars, we would like the experience to go smoothly. I propose a few changes are made:
1) We should improve the walkability of our town. Things like safer crosswalks and new walkways could increase the quality of the walking experience for both residents and visitors. I will discuss pain points with residents who walk frequently, to see which areas need improvement the most.
2) We should increase bikeability in our town.
There are some fun paths to bike on in Estes Park, but using a bicycle as a mode of transportation in this town can feel dangerous at times. Increasing the amount of bike paths in Estes will offer residents and tourists a healthy and eco-friendly way to get around.
3) We should make driving less stressful in Estes Park.
During peak tourist season, getting around in the traffic can make a person want to pull their hair out. Our current town council has done a good job at trying to relieve these issues, but more work needs to be done. Improving our town’s parking and shuttle systems will not only help to alleviate traffic congestion but will also create jobs and reduce our town’s carbon emissions.
Public Engagement
For a democracy to be effective, public leaders must communicate and engage with residents.
Our town’s small size and today’s technological capabilities allow us the opportunity to ensure that the people’s voices are heard.
If elected, I will communicate with the people of Estes Park consistently, to ensure the needs and desires of the town’s residents are heard, understood, and addressed.
What you can do:
If you also think these are important issues, please remember to vote for Aidan Rosenau for town trustee on X/XX/XX.
